Being a millennial babe, I’ve promised myself that my 20s are going to be a time of utter selfishness #SORRYNOTSORRY
If I have to be totally honest with you: I felt like I wasted a good few years where I was settling for bullshit and now that I’m newly single after 7 years, I feel so motivated and empowered to live my best life. Because of this recent realization, I decided to put together 20 things you need to do in your 20s and naturally, I had to share it with you.
P.S. don’t forget to keep up with me @itsroxyjames on instagram, twitter & snapchat for all the latest & BTS.
I haven’t done a lot of these so I’m super excited to check them off my list. You can always save/print the image below so you can always be reminded of them & be motivated to do them. Maybe we can even do it together!
Don’t forget to tag me if you print it & you’re using it!
1. Learn to be alone
I know this can be scary but this is something that everyone should learn to be okay with. There’s nothing scary about being alone and taking time for yourself AND enjoying it. It’s definitely liberating and when you start spending time alone, you won’t be able to get enough.
Read this post on How to Be Alone & Enjoy It, if you need any help with this one. I go into lots of details on how you can take baby steps to enjoy your own company.
2. Travel by yourself
Ever had the craving to just pick up yourself and go somewhere/anywhere? Sure you can always travel with a friend- it will be more fun that way obviously. But if you ever felt like you just wanted to hop on a plane solo, don’t be afraid- just go for it. There’s something freeing about being in a different country by yourself and just living and breathing in the experience of going on an adventure alone.
3. Cook a 3 course meal
Take a cooking class, grab a recipe book or just watch good old food network and learn how to whip up a full meal from start to finish. There’s something just satisfying and impressive about just being able to cook and then present & EAT restaurant quality food for yourself or guests.
4. Pamper Yourself
Girl please. If you feel like you want those nails did hair blown out, massage…make an appointment this minute!! Start putting aside one day for the month AT LEAST (if you can’t find the time once a week) to do something for yourself. Taking care of yourself gives you that extra confidence boost.
For me, my “pamper” myself moment is waxing. It’s not all that fancy but I can’t fit in anything else and after I wax I feel like a new woman. But I really want to schedule in a monthly pedi since my feet are always so achy (and abused) from gym, so I’m definitely going to work on making that time.

5. Learn a new skill
If there was ONE thing you wanted to learn right now, what would be it be?? Archery? An instrument? Self defense? Latin dance? A different language? Your 20s is the time to do it so why wait?
6. Give ZERO fucks
Not gonna lie, I truly have lost all my fucks to give. Let me just say that it’s one of the most amazing feelings to not give a damn in the world about what anyone has to say about me- be it on social media, the things I share on my blog or just how I choose to live my life. Doing what I do and being in the public comes with negativity but thankfully, the good ALWAYS outweighs the bad.
Instead of giving a fuck and wasting your energy on people undeserving of it, focus on the good things in your life and keep striving to be a positive person. It’s honestly like a breath of fresh air.
7. Eat healthy
Let’s be real here: you’re not getting any older so stop eating shit and start making healthy choices when it comes to eating. Be mindful of what you consume because you don’t want to end up with dietary issues and other health complications later on. You don’t have to become a food prude but just remember to indulge in moderation.
8. Start working out
Make sure to include some type of physical activity once or twice a week to just keep your heart rate UP. Does sex count? ANYWAY on a real, there are a million benefits of exercising and working out and you want to reap those rewards girlfriend.
If you hate the gym, no one gives a fuck. Just find a way to get in a good sweat outdoors or in a fun zumba class.
See why sex should totally count.

9. Stop settling
Your 20s are your prime. Stop settling for fuck-boys, studying something you don’t want to do, a job you don’t like or whatever has you bitchin’.
I swear I need to do an entire post on this tbh and I just might. But really and truly, don’t waste away your years dealing with second rate shit. You never know the amazing things that can happen if you just realize you deserve MORE in life.
10. Do something that scares you
What’s something that you always wanted to do, but you’re afraid of doing? Sky-diving? Scuba diving? Riding a legit roller coaster (no the baby ones don’t count)? Ghost hunting? What makes your knees wobbly but you really want to just conquer it?
Sure, it might take a lot of convincing yourself, but when you finally get over it, think about how exhilarating that would feel!
11. Make a scrapbook
Just for the fun of it, start collecting paraphernalia that reminds you of a good memory. Maybe it’s a concert you’ve attended, a movie, a trip that you took…and make a scrapbook! Write down why it’s special to you and keep adding to it. One day, you’ll look back on it and actually feel as if you were there all over again.
12. Learn how to host a party
Sure, you can just invite your friends over but how fun would it be if you had a well laid table of finger foods, drinks served on platters, an impressively decorated lounge area…OMG are you not feeling the excitement?!?!

13. Find a passionate love
What girl doesn’t want passion in her life? Be it a boyfriend or a FWB, don’t deny yourself the opportunity to have steamy sex and hot romance.
Honestly, I’ve been living it up recently and I definitely don’t feel the least bit guilty about enjoying sex. There’s nothing to be ashamed of so never let anyone tell you otherwise. If you crave passion and romance in your life, then go for it and do your thing.
14. Start saving
Learn to get money smart. Maybe you can familiarize yourself on making investments or going to the bank and setting up a savings account. Be wise with the way that you spend and be sure to learn the difference between needs & wants. Saving money and being smart is something that would always benefit you and your future.
15. Put yourself first
For a longggg time, I would always put myself last. I would focus on what other people would think and just keep putting off the things that I wanted to do. Eventually I learnt the hard way that people will always do what’s in their best interest so while I was exerting all my energy towards them, I was exhausted when it came to me and what I wanted to do. The result would be that I would never end up doing anything.
It’s your life. I’m not saying to be totally selfish, but you need to make yourself a priority and stop putting yourself last.

16. Be comfortable with you
Start loving yourself and all of your flaws. No one is perfect and that’s a fact. Stop beating up yourself about all of your little imperfections. Be comfortable with the skin you’re in. Everyone is different and unique so don’t try to be second rate version of someone else.
17. Make a bucket list
If you printed out a list of these 20 things to do, then congratulations, you basically have a bucket list!! If you want to create one specifically about you and your dreams, then don’t waste any more time. Grab a pen and paper and write down any and everything that comes to your mind. Once you have it written down, it will be easier for you to make a plan and put it into action.
18. Take a class
This doesn’t have to be any long term class that you take every single week. Think: simple and fun. I went to a cupcake baking class and learnt out to make different types of frosting and batter. Another time I went to Paint Nite and had a fun time following along and painting. If you like making jewelry find a jewelry making class; planner addict, then go to a planner night! Just so something to expand your horizons. You’re not gonna run out being a Picasso or Rachel Ray but at least you had fun and learnt a thing or two.
19. Get routine check-ups
That PAP smear you’ve been putting off? Mammogram you should have gotten by now? A spot you should have seen a dermatologist about? WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR? Your health is one of the things you can’t just put on a back burner. Don’t wait until something is wrong with you then to run to the doctor. Start getting regular check ups just to make sure that everything is okay. Remember that prevention is better than a cure so don’t wait until it’s too late. Make your health a priority.
20. Have real friends
This one is easier said than done. The thing about life, is that everyone is not gonna be trustworthy or genuine. Be sure that you can sort through and find those real souls who just get to you. The people who I consider “friends” are less than 3. These are people who are real, down to earth and will support me no matter what, and ff course, I’ll do the same.
Be careful of the friends you have as well because you eventually become the company you keep. I honestly could never be friends with anyone who didn’t share the same morals or values as me, and who wasn’t a genuinely good person with their head on.
You should also have friends who would call you out on your bs and not encourage you to do things that aren’t in your best interest.

So there you go! 20 things to do in your 20s. I can’t wait to get started on this list and check off the things I didn’t as yet. If you have any other tips to add to this bucket list, don’t forget to SHARE SHARE SHARE.
