Red Riding Hood Makeup + 1 Minute NO SEW Cloak

Halloween is almost upon us and before it catches up on me, I decided to start my Halloween tutorials early. The first look is Red Riding Hood-and everyone knows that I have a love affair with the colour red…hence I chose this as my first look.

My makeup is very simple but it definitely gives the wolf-like look that I wanted.

Here are some of the products that I used to create this look:

And best of all, you can make the cloak in less than one minute! All I used was satin-velvet is preferred but I couldn’t get any-and a ribbon. I used only 2 yards of material because I’m only 5’2 but if you’re taller, then by all means use more.

Here’s a pictorial if you rock that way (instructions are below):

1. Get about 2 yards of material (more if you’re taller-I’m 5’2)
2. Place the part you want to be the hood over your head
3. Take a piece of ribbon that can go around your head and tie securely
4. Place the ribbon around the ‘hood’ that you made and tie as if you’re starting off to make a bow
5. Pull more of the ‘hood’ through the hoop you made
6. Make a bow with your ribbon
7. Pull as much of cloth as you want to make a hood
There you go. Now you can make a cloak in less than 1 minute without any kind of sewing or gluing!

DIY: Pretty Polished Keys

Being in my new apartment and having a ton of different keys for God knows where, often leaves me as a fumbling mess whenever I’m trying to get in anywhere. So I decided to make them as pretty as can be. Here’s the video and below there are two cute little pictorials for the Vintage Rose one and the Leopard Print one. I hope you like them! Back to School: Binder Organization Tips!

Back to school is rolling around the corner and I’ve decided to kick off my back to school series with some tips for binder organization!

Shopping List!

Here is a suggested list of all the things that you would need :

1. Any binder of your choice- I chose a white one with the clear part in front where you can slip in things. I put this graduation card that my bestest aunt in the whole wide world gave me.

2. Poly envelopes that you can stick to your binder with two-sided tape., I put flash cards in mine but you can put whatever you’d like-even stationery!

3. Stick notes and post it’s! You can never get enough of these. I used two sided tape again and stuck them to my binder for extra security. I’m always jotting down some note or marking off textbook pages.

4. Sheet protectors- these are for when you get handouts in class and they don’t have binder holes. Keep them in the sheet protectors until you get to punch them.

5. Speaking of punching…you will need a paper puncher of course.

6. Paper: the more the merrier I always say – computer pages, file paper, graph paper- any kind of paper because you never know when you’re going to be needing them.

7. Ready Index Tabs are a God sent because they can easily help you to subdivide your binder into the subjects that you’re taking. Paris bought me the numerical set (they have alphabetical and a ton of other options) at Staples for under $4.00 but you can definitely get them at any stationery store.

Note: If you don’t have these, don’t stress because you can take those very sheet protectors I mentioned and slip in colourful paper or any kind of fun paper so that those will serve as dividers. You can associate the colour of your paper with the subject. Get creative!

8. A pen that you can just clip to one of the rings so that you’ll always have something to write with.

DIY Hydrating Avocado Repair Mask!

Tired of dry, damaged hair? Well don’t worry, I’ve got a little DIY hair mask that would make you kiss those bad hair days goodbye.

Ingredients:

1 Ripe Avocado (use the entire avocado if you have long hair or 1/2 if you have shorter hair)

2 Tbs of Olive Oil

1 egg yolk (optional)

Method:

All you have to do it peel and cut your avocado then mash it up with a fork. Then, add two tablespoons of olive oil and your egg yolk (which is optional) and then, to get a lovely smooth paste, you can use an electric mixer or a whisk, and ship everything together. You should end up with something that looks like this:

Get into your bathroom (or anywhere you won’t mind making a huge mess) and generously apply the mask to your hair. Make sure your entire hair is coated-from your scalp to the ends. When your’re finished, take plastic wrap-yes, you heard me Plastic wrap because I hate shower caps. I think they’re yuck. Plastic wrap your hair now and this works so much better than a shower cap because it really seals the heat in and remember, the more heat and the longer time your mask is on, the better it will seep into your hair and your scalp! If you want, you can take a blow dryer and pass it over-just to be dramatic.

Rinse, shampoo and condition and you can either air dry it or blow dry it.

Why this works?

Avocados have been used as hair beauty secrets since the time of the ancient Egyptians. They are a rich source of vitamins, especially Vitamin B which is necessary for hair growth as well as Vitamin E which repairs damage to the scalp, and we all know that a damaged scalp will slow or even stop hair from growing! They also contain proteins and amino acids which work at the cellular level to strengthen your hair ,Avocados are very hydrating and serves as a moisturizer for dry, damaged hair.

Olive oil is a well known beauty secret and it is excellent for making dry hair smooth and silky. I did a post a long time ago on the The Beauty of Olive Oil so be sure to check out the other amazing ways you can use it!

Egg yolk is a rich source of protein and lecithin which help to strengthen and moisturize your hair because it is able to penetrate the hair follicles thereby strengthening the roots, and we all know that healthy follicles=healthy roots=strong, healthy hair.
