It’s been a rough start to 2020. I remember on New Year’s Day feel so hopeful, so full of life- endless possibilities-you know the usual feelings for a new year. Something about 2020 felt so magical, and right now, if you’re reading this, you’ll know it’s close to a nightmare you want to wake up from.

The COVID-19 pandemic virus is just that thing you want to pretend isn’t happening. I have moments where I just feel dazed because I can’t believe that THIS is our reality. How could THIS be the dawn of the new decade. It makes me feel wobbly inside- as if I can’t process it. But sadly, it’s very much real and something that we have to get through together to #flattenthecurve
While shelves have been ravaged of hand sanitizer, I decided to make my own DIY hand sanitizer with just a few ingredients.
This might come in handy for the shortage in hand sanitizer due to the current #coronavirus pandemic. If you’re in a situation where you don’t have access to soap and water to wash your hands, keeping sanitizer readily on your person can be very helpful. Keep in mind that the CDC states that washing your hands with soap and water should always be the first option. Hand sanitizer is for use when absolutely necessary.
**The CDC recommends a sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol to be effective: hence the above ratios used.
INGREDIENTS:
- 1/3 cup aloe vera gel
- 2/3 cups rubbing/isopropyl alcohol (any value over 90% you’ll see it on the bottle itself)
- **optional for scent: eucalyptus essential oil
I tested a squeeze bottle vs a spray bottle and found the spray bottle was much easier to use. Because it has the gel in it, you should shake before you spritz.
I got my eucalyptus essential oil over here but this one is also really good if you just want a small bottle of eucalyptus essential oil. I just love the scent it gives the hand sanitizer. Other essential oil suggestions I love are lavender, lemon, tea tree oil. Keep in mind that this ingredient is not necessary but it makes it smell really good.
Ofc if you know me, I had to add cute stickers to the bottles! I just think it adds that extra little touch and since you’ll be using it a lot, why not?
Let me know if you make your own!
Disclaimer: *please note this DIY is my adaption based on what I researched. I am not a doctor or a disease specialist. Please consult a doctor & the CDC website to do your own research when it comes to the #coronavirus and precautions you should take. There are many variations of this diy so I definitely recommend again, that you do your own research.
