I have wanted shelves over my desk for ages!!! And I finally DIY-ed my own, but that’s a whole other video if you want. Blogger desk shelves are perfect not only for extra space but also for decor. I’m gonna share with you how I style my blogger blogger desk shelves and 5 elements that I think every shelf should have.
Let me know if you want to see more videos on how I style my shelves.
4 elements that I love to incorporate in my shelves are:
- color
- earthy pieces
- metals
- personal touches
- horizontal and vertical structure
I chose a color scheme based on pastels so everything that I added complimented those colors of mints and pinks. Choosing a color palette is the first step in styling your shelves because it gives you an idea of what you want the final outcome to be. It prevents you from just randomly using or buying items that just clash and don’t look cohesive.
Since I was going for a pastel look, I stacked books and added pencils and nail polishes which all were similarly colored.
Essie Nail Polishes from L-R: French Affair, Mint Candy Apple, Lilacism, Go Ginza
Earthy pieces add character to your shelves and I just love that natural touch. I used this amethyst stone on my first shelf and then an aloe vera plant on my top shelf.
P.S. I DIY-ed that geometric pot in this video.
Next up, metallic pieces add a modern vibe- like the horse figurine (from a children’s toy set) and the Eiffel Towel- both of which I spray painted gold btw. My mantra has suddenly become when in doubt, spray paint gold.
Also, I adored the gold tips and tops of the Target Dollar Spot pens because it just tied everything together. The Bath & Body Works mini candle was a perfect pinkish coral color and the lid was silver so I liked the mixture of metals there.
For personal touches, I added Essie nail polishes and I can see myself switching that up with MAC or YSL lipsticks or even a signature perfume bottle like Marc Jacob’s Daisy. #YUM
The storage boxes added so much life to the shelf with the bright pop of colour, and as you can see, I left the taller elements for the top shelf since it wasn’t constricted by another shelf above. Stacking the boxes one on top of the other and putting the mint binder to stand up really added character to shelf, without making it look cluttered.
P.S. I also loved the fact that the boxes are functional (I could store tons of planner supplies in there), as well as decorative.
Hope you got some ideas on how you can style your shelves and don’t forget to let me know if you want a DIY on how to make them.
