At the start of this year, I shared 10 of my personal goals and it inspired me to just get out there and live my life with purpose and passion. I love the idea of goal setting but sometimes, you might not have any idea of why you should set goals and where to even begin with goal setting.
Setting goals gives you direction and purpose in your life and helps you to feel inspired and motivated every single day.
P.S. Don’t forget to follow me on instagram @itsroxyjames, because I have so much exclusive lifestyle content I would love for you to see.
Here are 20 goals or things you should really start doing:
1. Stop Procrastinating.
Procrastinating stops us from following our dreams. It makes us waste time that could be instead used for our own personal growth and goals. Just acknowledge that you procrastinate and make a conscious effort to just stop procrastinating and actually do the things that you want to get done.
2. Read more books
There are so many amazing books that can completely change your mindset. I have my 10 Books Every Girl Boss Should Read as well as 10 Inspiring Self-Help Books so you can go ahead and check those out if you need some book recommendations.
3. Meet a savings goal
Any time is a great time to decide to set a savings goal: whether it’s $2000, $5000, $1000 or how much ever money you want to save. It’s better to save some thing-no matter how small- rather than splurging and not being mindful of your money. Even if you start with $10.00 every month- that $10 is going to add up over time. You can even have a specific purchase that you’re saving up for like paying off debt, a new house, car, a trip that you’ve always wanted to take etc. It’s a disciplined process but it will always be worth it.
4. Start scrapbooking / memory keeping
We live in a time now where you have so much access to polaroid cameras, mini printers and so much more! How much fun would it be to print out all of your pictures so that you can scrapbook/journal and document all of your memories and look back on it one day and be like WOW I did all of these things?!
Having physical pictures is so different than seeing things on your phone and just going through it without any real sense of emotion and feeling. Sometimes you don’t even appreciate it but when you see a beautiful scrapbook spread of a trip that you took or a memory that you made it makes you feel happy and it gives you that beautiful sense of nostalgia as you look back on it for years to come.
Need some scrapbooking inspiration? You can checkout these scrapbooking tutorials where I share so many different spreads and layouts you can try.
5. Cook more and try more recipes
There are so many recipes on Pinterest and YouTube that are completely free for you to browse and try. Something that I would really love to try to make is sushi. I LOVE SUSHI! I’m a sushi addict it’s ridiculous.
If you’re looking for something to try, here’s my 2 ingredient VEGAN ice-cream which is creamy and delicious and just hits that sweet spot when you’re seriously craving something. Another yummy things to try are these zucchini chocolate chip cookies that are so easy to make (and trust me when I say I don’t like baking) but these were actually a really good tasting success. I even ate it out by the next day but who’s judging. And it does have a vegetable so I mean…
6. Try a new workout
For instance, if you ALWAYS do a spin class, why not try pilates, or something completely out of what you would normally do- just to switch things up and make you feel more motivated to work out.
I had a huge workout slump last year where I just wasn’t motivated to work out anymore because I felt so bored. Now I have been mixing things up so much and it just makes me actually look forward to working out because it’s never the same thing.
7. Learn a new skill hobby
There are a million things that you can try out.
There are so many free resources online and if you want to learn a new hobby all you have to do is google and you get access to all of that information. Something that I would like to learn is macrame because I’m plant obsessed and those hanging planters look so dreamy.
8. Volunteer and give back
Giving back and service to others is such an important part of our existence. I really think its a great goal idea if you’re looking for somewhere to start. Look around your community and find places where you can volunteer. When you help someone else you can’t help but feel good about it because that’s just as an act of kindness and selflessness.
9. Be more mindful about your time
If you really decide to be aware about all that scrolling on Instagram or social media in general, you’ll realize that you waste so much time that you can be spending on your new hobby, volunteering, reading and doing so many other things.
Taking a social media detox, maybe just for an hour can help you see what you can get done instead and trust me when I say, but it can be really shocking. You can read this post and use this free printable to track your time hourly to see where it’s going.
10. Create a morning and a night routine
A great way to start doing this is by writing down what your perfect morning or perfect night routine looks like. You may want to have a cup of tea, to light a candle, take a nice shower. Listing out everything you want to do on mornings and evenings just gives you a sense of something to look forward to when you wake up, as well as help you to unwind at night.
11. Take mental health breaks
Something that we always forget about is taking time for our minds and to just really “catch ourselves”. Be in the moment: be present and mindful of what we’re doing and our intentions. Practice self-care and really put yourself first because by doing that you’ll be a better version of yourself.
12. Have a skincare routine.
I LOVE having a skincare routine but I do put a lot of focus on my face skincare routine and that’s fine but we often neglect everything else. A little something I’ve been doing is using a gentle scrub every single day to exfoliate my skin.
It makes me feel so good and doing that and over the past few days really made a difference in my skin. Putting aside that time to do a body scrub, a face mask or to do something good for your skin are things that should be on your to-do list.
13. Travel and explore more
Even if you can’t go away or leave your country, you can look for places in your country that you can visit because there are so many places that you probably don’t even know exist. Just hit a google search and you might find a nature park or a little cafe that you never heard of before.
14. Go outside more
How many times do we realize that we are just stuck indoors all the time without actually going outside into nature? We get so caught up always being inside a building and we don’t realize it. But when was the last time you actually went for a walk in the park or just felt those waves while you’re swimming?
15. Go on solo dates
I know going out by yourself can be super intimidating but something that you can at least try is going out for your favourite meal by yourself whether its wine or sushi or something like that. Believe it or not, people are much too caught up in their own world to realize that you’re having a meal by yourself.
16. Take your vitamins
Most of the times, you don’t get the correct amount of nutrition that you need from your everyday food, and that can take a toll on your body and make you feel tired and exhausted all the time. Do some research and find a good vitamin that is perfect for your lifestyle.
17. Set boundaries.
You want to make sure that you say yes to the things you really want to say yes to and no to the things that don’t make you happy or don’t make you feel good.
Sometimes it’s a hard draw because you might not want to disappoint other people but remember when you say ‘yes’ to something you don’t want to do you’re saying “no” to something that you really want to do.
That statement really made me change my perspective and made me realize that I don’t want to choose to do things that I don’t want to do when I can do the things I actually want to do. When you think of it like this, it’s so much easier to make a decision.
18. Wake up earlier
The day seems so much longer and more productive when you do wake up earlier because you end up having so much extra time you didn’t have before. Even if it’s like 15 minutes or an hour earlier, you can fit so much into that space of time and really get a start on your day.
19. Don’t feel stuck
Sometimes you might feel like you’re stuck in a rut because you’re seeing the same things over and over every day and that can be so frustrating and discouraging.
If you explore and go to new places, even if it’s in your own city that you’ve never been before, you get to meet new people and try new things. This helps get over that feeling of being stuck in one place and not moving.
20. Get out of your comfort zone
Really face your fears and do something that you wouldn’t ordinarily do so that you can learn more about yourself and even become a better version of yourself. For instance, if you have social anxiety (because raise your hands if you do) and you don’t like big crowds and don’t go out because of that, and don’t put yourself out there, that is something that you might want to work on.
Or you want to go on adventures but you hold yourself back because you’re afraid, you can probably try something like zip-lining or rock climbing and just putting yourself out there and letting go of those fears that may be holding you back.
Let me know which one you want to try or some of your goals for this year!
